Lithakia (Agios Sostis - Porto Koukla)

Lithakia is one of the largest villages on Zakynthos and is located within the valley of Laganas just 11 kilometers away from the main town of Zakynthos. Despite the rural appearance, the village has much to offer to tourists. The Faneromenis church that has unique icons and an impressive wooden gilded iconostasis, is one of the main attractions on everyone’s agenda to see. Another sample of traditional Zakynthos architecture is the Agios Ioannis church in the village. A “must see” is also the Environmental Education Center of Zakynthos located in the old mansion of Messala in Lithakia. To sample the local cuisine, visitors can choose among the many traditional taverns in Lithakia.

In close distance to the beach are two developed small tourist resorts, Agios Sostis and Porto Koukla, located between the tourist areas of Laganas and Limni Keriou.

The small beach of Agios Sostis is a picturesque spot of Laganas Bay that has been named after the small pine tree island connected to the coast by a wooden bridge. Near the beach is a small harbor that serves as shelter for small fishing boats and yachts. Agios Sostis’ sandy beach is organized with umbrellas and sun beds so bathers can enjoy a carefree sunbath and the beautiful sea.

Many traditional taverns are found from where one can admire the magnificent views of Laganas Bay and Aghios Sostis islet.Lithakia is a quiet and relaxing village which slopes gently down the hillside to a pretty bay, where glittering sands snake lazily around the a bit of character. And the soft and gently shelving sands are equally ideal for sun-soaking or castle-building.
